The challenge is about establishing a dynamic and growing environment

The purpose with Smart Textiles Technology Lab (STTL) is to gather the technical research within Smart Textiles and to work for a joint environment around researchers, Doctoral students and Master students. STTL is built initially in collaboration with University of Borås (THS [the Swedish School of Textiles] and IH [the Engineering School]), Swerea IVF, SP and Chalmers (Material and Production technique, Polymer material and composites). The work within STTL is operated in close relation to Chalmers Research School, Material Science. These parties have worked together within Smart Textiles since 2006 with focus on developing material, especially electro active material.

There are three main areas for experimental research within STTL; Electro active textiles, Dynamic textiles and Joint Technique/Design. Active research areas characterized by multi-disciplinary activity that promote production of the new generation's textile material.

Implementing

The challenge is about establishing a dynamic and growing environment, STTL, with a strategic choice of an overall research program.

The thought is that the development of the experimental research in its turn shall be driven by experimental product design where product ideas become tools for asking questions and illustrating solutions and applications.

The university and the research institutes have established experimental research within the area in collaboration with several national and international partners. This research will be strengthened to be able to meet the need of the initiative of an open store of possible solutions of problems not yet known, and of new perspectives of the use of textile techniques and products.

We will continue to work hard to develop and update workshops and labs so that research, workshops and labs is of absolute world-class quality the entire time.
