ST-133 Soft, weight-bearing materials for implants in the human body |
Company: Ortoma AB Head of Project: Matts Andersson
Description: Ortoma AB is presently developing a concept which enables individually adjusted orthopaedic implants and treatment methods in orthopaedic care. Ortoma's method is substantially less invasive than today's treatments and the implant is adjusted to each patient, which is expected to shorten the convalescence period and reduce post-surgical complications. The Ortoma concept covers a whole system in the form of software, patient-adjusted discs and surgical tools that facilitate the insertion of implants.
In the project, Ortoma AB along with Smart Textiles in Borås and the Orthopaedic Section at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, intends to develop an artificial disc which can replicate the behaviour of a natural disc and identify the material and production methods that might be suitable for producing such a prosthetic disc. |

ST-131, MEJT - Screening Belt for Your Mobile Phone |
Company: Mejt Contact: Susanne Ritterdal Söderblom
Description: The modern woman on the go often wears fashion with limited storage ability for her mobile phone. Fashion accessory brand Mejt is now marketing a new kind of product. It is a belt that, apart from solving the problem of storing a mobile phone, contains a material that screens electromagnetic radiation. With a clean design and carefully chosen materials, the Mejt belt is the diametrical opposite of conventional mobile storage. The Mejt belt is first fashion, then function, as opposed to competing products that focus on function but often forget design. Mejt has a young, trendy and feminine feeling. A crushingly simple idea but simultaneously a revolution for the woman on the go. The association with Sweden and Dalarna gives a sense of national romanticism and everyday magic.
