STP1, WarmTex

Company: FOV Fabrics AB

Project Time: 2009-06-09 - Ongoing

Description

The WarmTex project intend to investigate the possibilities to use FOV's innovation within conductive and warming textiles for using within the healthcare industry, especially at surgical operations (Temperature Management). The marketing potential is great for heating products because of the high cost of these products available on the market today, which means that all patients don't get heating during operations.

Within the WarmTex project, a number of potential signs will be evaluated as integrated in consisting operational equipment, as well as a separate product.  A product like that will generate a great added value for the end-user which goes well with FOV's business idea with combining different material and technologies to maximize the benefit for the customer.

STP2, Latta Hybrid, Self Carrying Textile Material in Furniture

Company: Anna von Schewen
Project Manager: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Project Time: -

Description

The Latta project started out as an experiment to create a soft and comfortable sitting piece of furniture without a lot of upholstery material. The goal is to decrease the use of material, to get a low weight, as well as a light expression. The starting point was a construction of a corset, consisting of stiff but flexible ribbons, held together by a textile fabric. Experiment with the constructions of the ribbons, for example feather steel, glass fiber, titan and press shaped wood has led to a construction built upon press shaped wooden ribbon being thread into a channel sewed textile. This construction provides a chair supporting the sitting person at the same time as it follows the shape and movement of the body. The putting together, like threading the ribbond into the textile, is however hard and time consuming. Since the ribbons are curve shaped, they all have to be threaded into the textile all at once.

Project Time: 2008-06-09 - Ongoing

Description

Sweden has an environment quality goal called "Fresch Air". The goal with this is that "The air shall be so clean that human health as well as animals, plants and culture is not being harmed". To reach this goal, threshold values for pollution are set. These threshold values I being supervised continuous of Sweden's municipalities. Every year, a summary is made with the measured results by IVL (Swedish Environmental Research Institute). A valuation of the country's position to reach the goals for clean air is also being made. The hardest threshold values to reach are particles, nitrogen oxide and Ozone. A study made at the University of Texas [1], show that certain polymer based filter has a great reduction of ozone (20-40%). This effect is not being shown on other types of filter material.

STP5 Nano Fiber for Wound Care Products

Company: Mölnlycke Health Care AB
Project Manager: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Project Time: 2006-12-15 - 2009-06-30

Description

Mölnlycke has a continuous need for developing existing and new wound care products for increased added technical value the purpose with the project is to integrate designed nano fibers in chosen products from Mölnlycke's assortment. In the products, the nano fibers shall contribute with an increased technical value and thereby contributes to better quality and increased competitor strength for Mölnlycke. A number of ideas exists today on how Mölnlycke can use nano fiber to raise the clinical and technical value and qualities at existing products. An idea is based on producing a bacterial killing nano fiber tissue, designed to give a unique and predictable release of the bacteria killing substance. For another product, the designed nano fiber cloth will act smart and stimulate wound healing by releasing an extra cellular matris protein.

STP8, Textile Form Pressed Furniture

Company: Fredrik Färg
Project Manager: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Project Time:  2009-03-26 - Ongoing

Description

This developing project consist of creating methods for ready-made furniture within self supporting textiles, without having to use expensive forming tools and presses.

The project starts from thermoplastic reusable polyester felt that, by its unique composition of melt fibers and needle felt materials, are being pressed to any thinkable shape.

The disadvantage with today's processing techniques is that forming tools to create form pressed products are big investments for a producer, which means long series for the product to become beneficial. The project is about solving this particular problem; to create furniture without expensive forming tools. The working process gets inspiration from the tailor industry's principals, proportions and common cases, to create complicated 3-dimensional structures that look natural and simple, like classical male fashion.

ST-109 Textile Furniture

Company: Jaba Group AB
Project Manager: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , Swerea
Project Time: 2009-06-03 - 2010-12-31

Description

Within the furniture industry, there are high demands on environmental friendly product, at the same time as a number of different material and surface treatment often are used in the same product to meet technical requirements. On top of this, there are functional demands and, not the least, a need of aesthetic values and creative thinking.

With textile material as a starting point, both environmental requirements and freedom of design, are made through form pressing of double-curved, wide-surfaced details, such as chairs. The method is also suitable for sounds absorbents like screening walls and wall panels of different forms.

The purpose with the project is to gather a well-functioned network of furniture companies that represents the entire processing chain and to reach pre-series production and launch at least three new products within 18 months.

ST-106 "Cullus" Industrial knitted Sound Absorbants

Company: AB Initio
Project Manager: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Project Time: 2009-04-29 - 2009-08-31

Descripton

The "Cullus" material is the result of a development project that started in 2002 at the University of Borås, Sweden. The goal was to offer architects and decorators an alternative material to existing acoustic boards to create a healthy acoustic environment. University of Borås put resources at disposal where Ulla Eson Bodin and Folke Sandvik cooperated with a focus to produce knitted wall elements and free ceiling hanged room dividers in sculptural, 3-dimensional shapes. The need for new sound absorbing solutions is big where esthetic and functional needs like fire safety, look, weight, shape ability and manageability are taken into consideration.

The starting point was to develop a material of flame toughened yarn with a melting component to be able to design a material that has certain stability and that is equivalent to the fire safety requirements for public spaces. Cullus was patented in 2006.

ST-107, Smart Textilies' influence in the Human Body

Company: TST Sweden AB

Project Time: 2009-04-29 - Ongoing

Description

PCM  (Phase Change Materials) material in clothing brings qualities that increase the possibilities to create a good heat balance in shifting external environments. The needs are however very different. A surgeon who operates for six hours, a firefighter in smoke for thirty minutes in 150-250  °C, or a skier in  0 till -10 °C all have different needs. PCM material can contribute to cooling the body in warm environments or to warming the body when it's cold. However, this demands that the PCM material's qualities and the constructions of the clothing are optimal for the concerned use. The knowledge how to do this is limited and up until now it has been carried out through "trial and error" methods. The purpose with the project is to analyze the needs in different situations and to develop PCM material and clothing optional for different use. A database consisting of PCM material with essential qualities and their function in different applications is being created.
