The Smart Textiles Design Lab (the STDL) focuses on development of research programs for exploring and developing new forms of expressions;

• new expressive materials and construction techniques
• exploring and developing new perspectives on textile expressions
• new ways to understand the basic logic behind the textile expression
• exploring and redefining textile design as a design profession; opening up for new design variables and new dimensions of expression
• introducing, exploring and critically reviewing the visions that tell stories of where we are going; the way in which all these new textiles and textile expressions is to change our way of working and living.

There are three overall project areas in the STDL:

• Textile Sound Design
• Dynamic Textile Patterns
• Textile Interaction Design
