One of the objectives of the Smart Textiles organization is to promote the spread of knowledge and skills. The purpose is to gather together the businesses of different industries and allow them to both exchange experiences and give them access to the latest research developments, both from the Swedish School of Textiles/Smart Textiles and from other institutes, companies and universities. Since Smart Textiles was founded, three competency centers has been established and a fourth, in the field of health care, will open in 2012.

The PPE Competency Center

Development of new materials and concepts is costly. The companies working with PPE in Sweden are small and medium-sized and thus do not have the financial resources to do development work on their own. There is also a demand for transfer of knowledge to PPE companies, primarily regarding the demands of the European market and other international markets. Read more about the PPE Competency Center

The Air Filter Competency Center

Sweden holds a strong position in air filtration and has many actors in the field, ranging from small companies to corporations which are world-leading in the business. Changes and new demands may lead to new questions, challenges and requirements from the industry and the business. The Textile Plasma Technology Platform

Textile Plasma has a strong focus on products and production and the main goals of the center are to, through plasma treatment, improve the environment profile of production in general and to increase the functionality of textile products. Thus, the overall purpose is to provide the textile industry in Sweden with the opportunity to use this emerging technology and, by doing so, help the industry gain competitive advantages, especially on the international market.
